David Allen Spilo passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday, August 15th 2013. He was born on August 21st, 1963 in West Lafayette, Indiana to Richard and Joyce (Briggs) Spilo. He was the youngest of three children and only son. He lived in Indiana, New York, and Iowa, before they saw the light and moved to Austin, Texas, when he was a teenager.
David graduated from Anderson High School and then went on to earn both a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M University. He specialized in digital design and computer architecture. He was the loudest and proudest member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie class of 1985, Whoop!
David worked in the semiconductor field as a circuit layout design engineer. He worked for Lockheed, AMD, Applied Research Labs, LS2, Motorola, and Freescale. He contributed to 10 patents and was part of the team that developed the AMD microprocessor.
David fell in love while at A&M with Hilary Albert and they were married in July 1990. They celebrated their 23rd anniversary this year. David was a family man who loved being a son, brother, and husband, but he especially loved being a father to his two children, Walter and Chandler. They were the joy of his life. He enjoyed watching his kids play their favorite sports; hockey for Walter and Soccer and Basketball for Chandler. He also loved being an uncle and teasing and supporting his many nieces and nephews.
David was knowledgeable in many areas and was the person you could call and ask how things worked. He was a true engineer. He loved to talk and to share what he had learned and he never stopped learning. His hobbies included cars, camping, and playing bridge. He loved to travel, especially to National Parks. He enjoyed all sorts of card and board games and having projects and making things – sports blankets, shelves, cooking food, as well as home improvement projects. We will miss his ability to fix things.
He will be remembered for his love and care for others. He was the kind of man who would take the time to stop and help others. He took great care of his Mom after his Dad passed away. He was also very close to his father sharing his love of electrical engineering, playing bridge and traveling. He valued people above things. David loved the Lord and his family looks forward to being reunited with him in heaven. He was a charter member of both Triumphant Love Lutheran Church and Lord of Life Lutheran Church.
David was preceded in death by his father, Richard Spilo. He will be dearly missed by his loving wife Hilary, his son Walter and daughter Chandler.
