David Hill Walter David Hill Walter, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend, passed away with peace and grace, surrounded by the love of his family and friends, on Sunday, August 31, 2003. He lived many lifetimes of love, laughter, fun and adventure in his 55 years. Born February 21, 1948, in Albuquerque, N.M., to Pete and Elizabeth Walter, David was raised in Roswell, N.M., with four siblings and spent more than 30 years living in Austin and Blue Lake. He loved spending time with his wife, Donna, and shared frequent visits with his daughters, granddaughter, father, and all of his many family members and friends. A well-respected lawyer with Byrd, Davis, Eisenberg, Walter and Furman, Captain Dave was a fisherman at heart, which went well with his love of country music, and an avid golfer and University of Texas sports fan. He sang in a barbershop quartet, played honky-tonk piano and felt at home at the Broken Spoke. He loved to get away from it all on an annual trail ride with former classmates from New Mexico Military Institute and at gatherings of the Bandera Reading Society. Always dedicated to public service, David was a past president of the Travis County Bar Association and CASA for the Highland Lakes Area. He was a longtime member of Sertoma International and instrumental in the work of the Boys and Girls Club of the Highland Lakes. A former governor of New Mexico Boys State, David graduated from UT in 1969, served 2 years as a military police officer in Wurzburg, Germany, and earned his law degree from UT in 1975. He gave great advice, treated everyone with respect, and was a best friend and an inspiration to many, especially his family, who are forever thankful for the gift of Davids life. He is survived, dearly loved and missed by his wife Donna; daughters Erin and Megan Walter; stepdaughter Stacy Mangold and husband Brett; granddaughter Riley Mangold; parents C.E. Pete Walter of Austin and Elizabeth Mothershead and her husband Byron of Glendale, Ariz.; brothers and sisters-in-law Jeff and Terri Walter of Lorena and Clark and Martha Walter of Sugarland; sisters and brothers-in-law Libbi and Roger Jarvis of Nashville, Tenn., and Suzi and Ed Joice of Lake Livingston; nieces and nephews Julie Stockard, Mike and Steven Walter, Ashlie Driver, Allison Nordeen, and Erika, Logan and Mason Walter; and a large extended family and group of close friends. Memorial gifts may be made to the NMMI Foundation Inc., 101 W College, Roswell, NM 88201 (Please designate to David H. Walter Memorial Fund); the Gene Cervenka Scholarship Fund (for graduates of the Texas School for the Deaf), c/o Ronald A.
