Gladys Edwadean “Dean” (Brittain) Womble, 91

Dean Womble of Austin TX passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 2, 2019. She was born October 16, 1927, the second child of the late Edward and Mildred Brittain of Jacksonville AL. After obtaining her nursing degree from Jefferson-Hillman School of Nursing Birmingham AL, she went to the University of Texas Medical School in Galveston TX, where she especially loved working in the pediatric ward. Here, she met the love of her life, the late Dr. Joe D. Womble.

Dean and Joe married in 1951 and moved to Arlington TX, where they raised their three boys and she was an active member of the Arlington Women’s Club. After Joe’s retirement, they moved to Austin TX in 2007 to be near family, especially their grandchildren.

Dean is survived by her three sons: Mark D. Womble and wife Mary of Youngstown OH; Steven K. Womble and wife Beth of Austin TX; and Scott W. Womble and wife Deb of San Diego CA. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Marshall, Paige, and Victoria Rose; sisters Wilma Duke and Clara Hill of Birmingham AL; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Dean was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Joe of 65 years in December 2016, and her brother Paul E. Brittain in April 2019.

The family would like to thank all staff and residents of Querencia at Barton Creek for their care and friendships with Dean and Joe over the past 12 years. A private family memorial service will be held in the near future at Remembrance Gardens, Austin TX.
