

Denise Porcher Anderson, long time resident of Austin, Texas died Tuesday, July 29, 2003. She was born in Texarkana, Texas, April 10, 1915. She graduated from High School in Texarkana and attended Henderson State Teachers College in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. She married Harry W. Anderson of Arkadelphia and worked as a secretary while he taught school. She retired from a position as supervisor of security deposits for the Texas Department of Insurance shortly after her husbands death in 1981, serving 25 years. She was wonderfully witty, a quiet, intelligent, perceptive and humble person whose curiosity led to a lifetime of learning. Widely read, she was a source of information in art, literature, history, the natural world, her profession and the wisdom of life. Her invaluable advice sustained and gave emotional support to all who knew her. A respected and loved sister, aunt and friend whose generosity touched all. She led a quiet secluded life taking care of her beloved cats and garden. Denise is survived by a sister Helene Curry of Denton; brother Cal Porcher of Fort Worth; sister-in-law Hobby Porcher of Fort Worth; nieces Jan Streitwieser, Leigh Anne Gordon, Debra Ishee and Emily Thom; nephews Danny Curry, Glenn Curry, and Sam Sewell III; many grand nieces and nephews and close friends John and Grace Crutchfield and Joe and Sondra Barbush. Graveside services will be Saturday, August 2nd at 10:00 a.m. at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery conducted by Reverend Richard Penna of Austin.
