Dad,    We're coming up on the anniverary of your death.  There are times I can't believe it's already been a year and other times when it seems like it has been an eternity.  I can't help but think that I talked to you a year ago yesterday and lost you a year ago tomorrow.  I wish I had said to you the things that were in my heart and that you knew how much you were loved.  At first I measured time by the days and then weeks since I talked to you last.  I replayed our last conversation in my mind over and over and hoped that you heard me say that I loved you as we hung up the phone.      I've missed you so much more than I expected to.  I've thought about you on cold nights, during Spurs' games and of course the Superbowl. I've longed to talk to you about Jonathon, Julia and Madelyn.  You were always so wise and I miss talking to you about work and getting your opinion on issues that have come up.  What can I say?  I just miss you!    I am sorry that life didn't bring you the happiness and pleasure you deserved.  I hate that you weren't able to fight the demons that tormented you and ended up winning in the end.      I hope and pray that you are at peace and know how much we still love you and think about you.  You are still a source of joy and  laughter, and yet tears and frustration. In life there are few things that can be taken away:  a harsh word, once spoken, is impossible to retract, a lost moment - impossible to regain. To balance this we live with the knowledge and comfort that love, forgiveness and strength is always with us.  It is in us to both give and receive.  II Tim. 1:7 says, God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, love and sound mind.   My wish for this family, for Mimi, Pappy, Danny, Elena and, my dearest friend, Athena is the peace and hope that faith gives you.  I wish I could have met you under different circumstances, but I feel blessed that Ive met my best friends family.   Youre in my thoughts and prayers every moment.



Its Been A Year Now      Its been a year now  Since your flame was extinguished.  Though you thought that it had burned out long before,  It was still bright for those who loved you.    Its been a year now  And though weve cried thousands of tears,  We need to remember all the tears that were shed,  Before you even left.    Its been a year now  Since I had the opportunity to hear you on the phone.  Oh how I use to dread your calls,   Now I long for them and the sound of your voice.    Its been a year now  And Ive called your number a million times.  Hoping youd answer, that it had all been a dream.  But knowing it was reality because I was the one who cancelled your phone.    Its been a year now  Since weve heard you sing.  Or played your guitar or told your jokes.  All we have now is old recordings and long lost videos.    Its been a year now  And though time is a great healer,  There have been so many times when  I look up at the stars above.   And wonder if you can hear me still talking to you.    Its been a year now  Since you said you loved me.  Said youd talk to me later  And said Goodbye Kid.  If only Id had the foresight to tell you all that was in my heart.

Although this may sound bad, I was actually relieved to know that you weren't sitting home alone with no one around to celebrate your special day...only to be remembered by a few phone calls and a couple of cards or gifts.  The past few birthdays you had before you left us always weighed heavy on my heart because there was nothing I could do to stop or help the loneliness you felt, which I know was compounded on any type of holiday or special day of rememberance.  My main concern today was for your parents and Elena because I felt that this would be an extremely hard day for them.    I wish there was some way to turn back the hands of time so I could have changed the way things ended up.  Maybe I could have intervened in some way or gotten you the help you needed but as hard as I tried, you just didn't have the will to go on and therefore resisted all attempts on my part.  I'll never understand why you chose to do the things you did in life, and it's not my place to judge, condone, or condemn.  Just know that where ever you are, my thoughts, prayers, and heart is with you now. Bettie Lou & Dan, so sorry for the loss of your son.  Losing a daughter ourselves, there is a bond between us cousins now.  It's something you never get over, but with the help of God, you will be able to live through it. Dennis, It's been 4-mos.& 17 day's since you left us, although it seems like today.there is such a great void in my life.I loved you so much. I listen to your songs every day, as I need to hear your'e voice.the word's in one of your'e songs tell's the way I live each day.those word's are ( If only my heart could talk to your'e heart we'd have a million thing's to say ,every minute,every hour of every day.)some day we will be together & then we will talk. Dennis  So many memories race through my mind; my kids learning how to ride a horse on Buck, playing music from dusk till dawn (and then some), softball, baseball, the time I talked you into going to Missouri with me to play music, you were my best friend & always there for me ... Dennis,  As your little Brother I have always looked up to you, you were always the smarter,quicker,wiser one than I  and you got all  of the musical talent of the Goodrum boys.  It was not always an easy thing to be brothers, because brothers dont always see eye to eye. But I always loved you even though  sometimes I didnt show it.   Like I said I have always looked up to you and even now I still  do and will.   Rest easy Bro, we will met again.

Dennis was one of my most favorite people in the world.  His infectious laugh and his mischievous smile are what I think of when I remember him.  He was so fun to be around!  He was a great man. My sincerest condolences to his family.



We were both so very sad to hear about Dennis..He was a very good friend, for Steve...all the way back to Hood Jr. High..He had a heart as big as Dallas and always kept us laughing..and sometimes amazed at his latest idea or new invention. We will miss him very much.
