She was preceded in death by her parents, Frances Diaz Reyes and Henry L. Reyes; her siblings, Mary Jane Ruiz, Frances Marie Moreno, Henry D. Reyes, Margaret Ramirez, Guadalupe De La Rosa, Manuel D. Reyes, Richard D. Reyes, and Edward D. Reyes; nephews Chris and Robert Reyes, and niece Ruby Howard.
Desi had a long beautiful life filled with family, friends, love, laughter and as we all know, bingo. Mondays and Wednesdays one could find Desi parked at the bingo hall with all of her friends, both new and old. She was never fond of being a stranger to someone. If someone needed a ride to bingo, the store or some other type of errand Desi would step right up and offer her time. This was the type of friendship you grew to understand and accept when you invited Desi into your life. All this is not to say that she didn’t have room in her heart for one special man, Angel Castillo Garza, her loving husband of 51 years. They had two sons, John and Angel Castillo. One might think that this would be enough to over fill a persons heart, however, Desi was no normal person when it came to showing and sharing her love. Grandkids and a great-grandchild opened her heart even more. She treasured her time with her grandkids and great-grandkids and loved spoiling them with unconditional love. Desi had a giant heart and showed no limits to what she was willing to do for someone she loved.
Desi was a well known loving mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother, who, at times, had no problem showing you some real tough love that always came from the bottom of her heart. She was a woman who was not afraid to speak her mind or speak out in any situation, often referred to the Reyes’ attitude. From cheering on her favorite sports teams or her own family members in their sports she did it all with her whole heart and soul. Desi was a dependable woman who you could bring problems and issues too if you needed to someone to listen, she was always willing to lend a hand or ear to help out a situation, sometimes both and sometimes even if no one asked. Desi was a strong woman with strong opinions and an even stronger heart to go with it. She was never afraid to shower someone in gifts of love and admiration all while never asking for anything in return.
Desi is survived by her husband of 51 years, Angel Castillo Garza; her children, John Castillo and Angel Castillo; her grandchildren, Marisa Castillo, John Henry Castillo and Jena Castillo; her great grandchild, Isabella Sanborn; her sibling Monico D. Reyes (Carlotta); numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, many cousins and other loving family and friends.
A visitation for Desi will be held Friday, November 10, 2023 from 4:30 to 6:00 PM at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2620 South Congress Avenue, Austin, Texas 78704, followed by a memorial service at 6:00 PM.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.wcfishsouth.com for the Castillo family.
