

Donald P. McDuff passed away Saturday, June 11, 2011 in Austin, Texas. Mr. McDuff was born March 17, 1926 in Ft. Worth, Texas to Pete and Lillian Ray McDuff. Don, as he was known, graduated from Ft. Worth’s North Side High School in 1943. Don entered Arlington State College in 1943 and transferred to the Naval Air Corps V5 program as a cadet and stayed with NTAC for the rest of the term. Don continued the pilot training at St. Mary’s College in Oakland, CA. and was discharged after the war in Oct. 1945. He married Anna Miller in August 1946 and had four children. Don graduated cum laude from Texas University in 1954 with a B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering. He attended SMU, TCU, and St. Mary’s in CA during his career pursuit. As a registered Professional Engineer, he worked for the cities of Dallas, Ft. Worth and Austin, Tx, plus several engineering firms, mostly as a project manager for dam construction and water treatment facilities. During his career, Don lived and worked in several states and received an award for 50 years service last year. In the early 1970’s, a young Engineer, Bill Othon, worked under Don’s supervision at Forrest & Cotton in Dallas. As that young Engineer became successful, he established his own company. Don, in semiretirement, joined Bill and continued working with him until his death.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda; sons Donald Pete, Jr. (Don) and wife, Jennifer; John William, and wife, Laura, daughter, Melissa and her husband, Don Moses. His daughter, Karen McCarthy, preceded him in death in 2007. His grandchildren are, Kelly McCarthy Lux , son, Ryan McCarthy and wife, Tiffany; Michael Kirk McDuff, Roger Guidos, Michelle Moses, Jeff Moses and Sam McDuff. He has two great-grandchildren, Chelsea and Ethan Lux. His stepson, Michael Baker preceded him in death in April, 2011. Other survivors include a sister, Dorthene Randall and husband Dick of Houston; sister-in-law, Geneva McDuff; son-in-law, Robert McCarthy and three nieces. A brother, Michael Ray McDuff preceded him in death in 2005.
Don loved golf, as exemplified by many trophies. He toured National Parks and foreign countries. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from noon until two o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, the 14th of June at Cook Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, TX.
