Dora Fogg

December 11, 1924July 8, 2019

On Monday, July 8, 2019, Dora “Granny” Fogg, 94, from Elgin, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones. She was an absolute light to all of those that she met and will be deeply missed.

A woman of strong faith, she was a prayer warrior that would live out the scripture of worry about nothing, but pray about everything. Her love of church and family ran deep throughout her life. She was a longtime member of Hornsby Bend Assembly of God. Dora was born to Nath and Thana Meredith near Manor, TX on December 11, 1924. She grew up with 13 brothers and sisters. Dora attended Hornsby Dunlap School and either walked, rode a horse or a wagon to school and church until she married in 1943 to Ezekiel Ira Fogg and raised 6 children, Mary Ellen, Charles Arthur, Leonard Vance, Leroy Franklin, Thana LaVerne, and Larry Dale.

Dora worked in food service for most of her life. She served on the culinary staff for the Governor of Texas. After moving to Spokane, WA she worked at Holy Family Hospital and Colfax Memorial Hospital. The couple returned to Texas in 1979 where she worked for the State of Texas until her retirement. At age 72, she returned to work as a greeter at Walmart in Austin, TX. At church she organized and operated the Hornsby Bend food bank, serving scores of local families. She served as the women’s ministry and missions leader. One of her favorite local events was to participate in the Christmas parade.

Dora will be dearly missed by her family and loved ones. She is survived by her children, Leonard Fogg, age 74 of Soperton, GA, Leroy Fogg, age 73 of Soperton, GA, Thana Carr, age 69 of Battle Ground, WA, Larry Fogg age 63 of Post Falls, ID; 19 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great-grandchildren.

Since we came to pastor Hornsby Bend Assembly of God in 2012, Dora has been like a mom to us. She was a strong support to us, always telling us that she was so proud of us as pastors and of all the church has done. She participated in Clothing give-always, cooked the best roast at our 4th Sunday Sings, starred in a Christmas program, dressed up for crazy costume contests, faithfully served in our Board, and we could go on and on. She was an all in person who never missed unless she was too ill to come. Dora we love you and will always miss you. But, we know you told us many times you were ready. Dance on the streets of gold with your husband that you have missed so long, say hi to our parents for us, and meet us at the golden gate. We won’t be far behind you, and, Carl will be anxious to get his regular slap on the cheek. We are praying for all of the family, as we know Dora is a really hard person to loose. But, praise God, we can see her again!

Dora was one of the sweetest people I've ever been privileged to meet. She was so loving and kind and giving. She was also a wonderful cook. And she didn't mind sharing her recipes. I still make dishpan cookies from the recipe that she gave me. But my chicken and dumplings have never been as good as hers even though she told me how to make them. Sweet Dora, I know your family and friends will miss you. I haven't seen you in recent years as much but I've thought of you. Enjoy the celebration in heaven. I know it will be grand. And save me a place at the supper table.
My condolences to all of Dora's family and to those who loved her.

Our fondest memories of granny were made on her back porch. She had the coolest porch of all the neighbors in the summer. We loved visiting with her during those times. I also loved seeing her at Wal-Mart on my shopping days. We miss you granny.
