Dora Hansen

Dora Martínez Hansen, daughter of Leonardo Martínez and Juanita Reyes was born in Laredo, TX on September 29, 1925 and her soul peacefully returned to our Heavenly Father on June 16, 2019 at the tender age of 93. The second daughter of five, she is predeceased by Hortencia, Alicia and Carmela. Her sister, Evangelina currently resides in Laredo, TX.

Dora married Steen Rankin Hansen, with whom she had two daughters: Anne-Marie Rankin Hansen and Karen Ellen Hansen, both of Austin, TX. She is “Grandma” to Christina Sciarrillo of Brooklyn, NY, Phoebe (Bracken) Hale of Austin, TX, Torbjørn Greisen of Austin, TX, Emily (Tom)Leed of Snyder, NY and Kristian Greisen of Copenhagen, Denmark and Great Grandma to Rune and Natalie Hale as well as Benjamin, Henry, Adeline and Thomas Leed.

Dora worked as a secretary at the United States Air Force before becoming an Immigration Officer in Laredo, TX. While there, she was instrumental in exposing internal corruption and in the efforts to prevent future corruption.

Dora moved to Austin, TX after her retirement and was a devoted parishioner at San Jose Catholic Church, attending daily Mass and receiving daily Holy Communion. She led the Rosary before daily Mass and was part of the Bereavement Rosary Ministry as well as a third order Dominican.

Dora lived a quiet life and enjoyed the companionship of her family and many friends. She was often seen giggling at breakfast after Saturday morning Mass and enjoyed comedies and funny home videos. She also enjoyed reading and spending time in Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. She was generous to anyone in need and kind to so many.

Dora died gracefully with a lot of love and support and was a wonderful example of a woman of deep and abiding faith. She was loved by all who met her and will be deeply missed.

Visitation 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 South Congress with Recitation of the Holy Rosary to begin at 7:00 pm.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Thursday, June 20, 2019 at San Jose Catholic Church, 2435 Oak Crest Ave.

Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery.
