Doris Paul Elliott passed away peacefully at Hospice Austin's Christopher House on July 4, 2009, after a valiant battle with lung cancer and numerous other illnesses. She was 75. She was born in Thomson, Georgia on July 9, 1933. She met Mickey Elliott in Augusta Georgia where he was supplying materials for the construction of the Atomic Energy Hydrogen Bomb Plant. They were married in Thomson on June 20, 1953. For the next 35 years, she helped Mickey and their friends build a company into an industry leader. They lived in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Beaumont and Houston before retiring to Austin in 1997. A great homemaker, she was a loving mother of three children, Mandy, Mike and Mark. An invaluable asset, she had a flair for entertaining, making Mickey's career fun as well as rewarding. Doris was a tireless worker in the Methodist Church and in all the children's school activities; she particularly enjoyed many years as a member of the Bluebird Circle in Houston. She is survived by Mickey, her devoted husband of 56 years; daughter Amanda Elliott of Dallas, son Michael Elliott of Austin, son Mark Elliott, his wife, Donna, three granddaughters, Nicole, Cecily and Gabriella of Schertz, Texas; sister Joyce Paul of Macon, Georgia; brother-in-law, W. R. Aufricht and his wife Martha of Dallas, and sister-in-law, Arnette Merritt of San Augustine, Texas. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary and step-father, Emory Pollette. Visitation will be at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd, Austin, Texas, from 6-8 P.M. on Monday, July 6. Funeral Services will be held in the chapel at the same address at 1 P.M. on Tuesday, July 7, officiated by Reverend Ann Beaty of Tarrytown United Methodist Church. A private family graveside service will be held at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery. The family wishes to thank their many friends who have been so supportive over the years: the wonderful care by Dr. Merrill Kies at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Dr. Jerry Fain in Austin, the skilled and compassionate staff at Christopher House and caregivers Rae Brown and Richard Aparicio.
