Doris was born on May 8, 1924 in Yoakum, Texas to Mamie and Arthur Gott. Doris' father died when she was four years old, and after Mamie's remarriage, the family moved many times to different cities in Texas due to her stepfather's employment. Doris settled in Austin, and became a secretary for the Boy Scouts of America. Thereafter, she worked as a secretary, primarily for the Selective Service and was regarded by her employers as a most outstanding secretary and assistant.
Doris married William H. Prather on June 12, 1948. They raised two daughters, and Doris was an exceptional grandmother to her three grandchildren. Doris was also a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Austin and was always eager to contribute her time and participation to help others.
Doris is survived by her two daughters, Paula and Denise, and her three grandchildren, Chris Hamje, Laura Hamje and Lyn Moore.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 13th at Austin Memorial Park, 2800 Hancock Dr, in Austin.
