Dorothy Frances Bruce was born on June 22, 1922 and she passed away on February 10, 2021. She was born in Enid, Oklahoma and her family first moved to Sea Drift, Texas when Dorothy was 6. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Houston for over 54 years as well as a member of the Junior League for more than 20 years, but she would want to be remembered most for her enduring love for both family and friends.

“Grandee or Aunt Dorothy” as she was best known, departed in peace with a great escort for her journey. She goes forth confidently to Him who has protected and loved her as a mother loves her child.

She is survived by daughters Earlyne Caruso and husband Joe, Linda Latino Flanakin and husband Wiley, her son, Michael Bruce and wife Debbie. Her granddaughters Renee Lay Moore and husband Rick and Jennifer Latino. Her great-grandchildren, Sauyer Lindsey and husband Brentley, Austin Wellman and Husband Brett, Tristen Lay, Taylor Hale and Madeline Edwards and husband Cameron. She also has two great-great grandchildren.

She is the last remaining sibling of 6 sisters, who blessed Dorothy with more than 100 nieces and nephews, both great and grand in Aunt Dorothy's life.

Dorothy was a person of deep faith with an abundance of kindness and humility. She lived a life serving God and loving others. She was an inspiration to all who knew her.

The family put to rest their beloved matriarch yesterday in Austin Texas.

I think all of us feel, to a large degree, that Dorothy’s passing has had the very unexpected effect of making death itself look quite different. I believe that what was true of Our Lord is, to a lesser degree, true of all who are in Him. They will go away in order to be with us in a new way, even closer than before.

I do not doubt that our very beloved matriarch Dorothy Frances Bruce is doing and will do for us all sorts of new things that she was unable to still do in her earthly body. The Lord has given Dorothy a new imperishable body, one as it says in Philippians 3:21 that “will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body.”

So we should all rejoice today that Dorothy Frances Bruce will be with us in more ways than we could ever imagine until we see her in Heaven.

We Love You.

Dorothy Bruce was a very remarkable and amazing lady, with very strong religious convictions. Although I had the pleasure of knowing her for only a few years, she has left many unforgettable and pleasant memories in our hearts and mind. The board games we played (and how quickly she would catch us when we tried to cheat); when asked "how are you doing", she would reply "same old 7 and 6 (something, she said, her mother used to say); and when I would knock on her door just to say "hello", she would always invite me in for a few minutes of a nice chat. These, and many other fond memories, are etched in our hearts and minds forever.
Her honesty and staunch beliefs in the Lord and the Bible are beyond words. She has touched the hearts and souls of many friends with her blessings and kindness. Although she has left us to be with the Lord in Heaven till the end of time, we will miss her dearly on this earth. Her memories will never be erased with the passing of time.
May Her Soul Rest In Peace.
