Dorothy Bryant Cook passed away peacefully on December 14, 2006. She was born in Austin on December 29, 1918, to Mae Minette and Thomas Austin Bryant. Her family owned a dairy farm and Bryant Creamery, which served Austin in the 1930's. The dairy farm was later sold and subdivided into housing tracts, which became the Brykerwoods subdivision developed in the early 1940's. Dorothy was a graduate of Austin High School. She earned a BBA in three years from the University of Texas, graduating with honors. She was a lifetime member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. After graduation, her career began in the Governor's Office under Coke Stevenson, and later as secretary for State Civil Defense and Tax Examiner at IRS. She earned the Certified Professional Secretary designation in 1963. In 1939 Dorothy married Charles Cecil Cook, a builder and real estate broker in Austin for many years. They enjoyed 56 years of marriage before he passed away in 1995. The two had a passion for traveling, and Dorothy spent many hours researching museums and areas of interest as they traversed the country and the world. After Cecil's passing, Dorothy was fortunate to have a support group of good friends to keep her occupied playing bridge several times a week for a number of years. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles Cecil "C.C." Cook, daughter Connie Gayle Rickard, and sister Norma Bryant Broom. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her son Cary Bryant Cook and wife Diane of Abilene and a daughter Candace Cook Corwin of Austin, and five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. The family would like to express their gratitude for the loving care and special attention Dorothy received from the caregivers at Carestone Assisted Living and Hospice Austin. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home on Monday, December 18, 2006. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel. Burial to follow at Austin Memorial Park.
