Dorothy Lucille Smith Drozd of Kyle and formally of Austin, Texas passed away peacefully on Wednesday December 12, 2012 at the age of 87. Born in Austin on November 10, 1925 in the beginning of the Depression, Dorothy lived her life anything but "depressed."
Dorothy loved a good joke (and a lot of the bad ones). She loved life, she loved animals, and she loved children. In fact it's hard to believe that God could fit so much love in someone so small in stature.
Her life wasn't always easy but you wouldn't hear Dorothy complain about the past or her own health. Ask her how she's feeling and her answer would most likely have been "How are YOU feeling?" with a twinkle in her eye.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her mother, Jennie Lavenia Stuart Smith and her father, Daniel DeLoss Smith. She was also preceded in death by her oldest brother, Daniel DeLoss Smith Jr. (who died on a Korean War mission in 1952), her brother, George Stuart Smith in 1991, her sister, Ellen Elizabeth West in 2012, and her granddaughter, Heather Stice in 2007.
Dorothy is survived by her son Leon F. Drozd Jr., her daughter Frances M. Stastney, her son Edward A. Drozd, her daughter Shirley A. Stanford, and her daughter Lucille S. Kirkby. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Dorothy was an amazing and gracious friend to all she met and will be missed by many.
A visitation for Dorothy is being held at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home on Friday, December 14th from 6pm until 8pm.
The funeral will be at the University Avenue Church of Christ, 1903 University Avenue, on Saturday, December 15th at 1pm. Her final resting place will be at Austin Memorial Park.
The family asks that any memorial donations be made in Dorothy's honor to the University Avenue Church of Christ in support of its Emergency Assistance Fund or to a charity of the donor's choice which helps people with special needs and/or the elderly
