Dorothy C. Evans, formerly of Austin, died on April 30, 2009 at Oak Park Nursing Home in Auburn, Alabama. Mrs. Evans was born June 12, 1922, in Houston, Texas, the daughter of Myrtle Seiders Cuthbertson and John Lee Cuthbertson. Dorothy grew up in Austin, and was married in Washington D.C. just before her groom, Jack W. Rogers, Sr. departed for WWII as a fighter pilot. As a military wife, she raised her sons in Austin, California, Japan and Georgia, but the family also lived in the oilfields of West Texas. She attended the University of Texas and was active in the UT wives club. She later became a partner in Freund-Cuthbertson-Rogers Insurance Agency in Austin, and was a member of the Austin Women's Club. After marrying Walter Evans in 1975, she lived in Houston and Saudi, but mostly in Austin, which she loved and considered her home, until joining her oldest son in Alabama in 2007. Wherever she went, she enjoyed life, played a mean game of bridge and fully engaged in the people she met who became her dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Reed Evans, and is survived by her three sons, Jack Wyndall Rogers, Jr., of Auburn, William Douglas Rogers of Onalaska, Texas, and Charles Thomas Rogers of Houston; a sister, Margaret Quadlander of Austin; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and six nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery.
