Her early years were spent in San Antonio, later moving to Corpus Christi. She told many stories of her love of climbing trees in Corpus Christi while growing up. She graduated from Corpus Christi high school and Del Mar college. While walking on the sea wall with friends in Corpus Christi, she met her future husband, Laurence McEachron. They were married December 4, 1946. The happy couple moved to upstate (King Ferry and Ledyard) New York and raised four children. While her children were young she was a stay-at-home mom. She loved to sew, kept a plentiful garden, and canned fresh fruits and vegetables.
She was a 4-H leader and taught the girls many good life lessons. After her oldest son started college, she went to work at Cornell University in the Physics and Space Sciences department. Her great claim to fame was working in Carl Sagan’s office. She was always very proud of her time at Cornell. She also enjoyed her crossword puzzles and when she couldn’t do the puzzles anymore she loved coloring.
Later on in life, after retiring, the couple moved to Rockport, Texas to be close to family. A collector of many things; hats, stones, leaves, shells, feathers, and of course her pennies. She loved to walk, especially on the beach, picking up her many shells. As in life, she and Laurence eventually made another life change, moving to a retirement community in Austin to be near their older daughter. She loved living in the community as she was able to participate in the many activities. She especially loved playing Bingo, eventually becoming the organizer and keeper of all the bingo cards.
Later, her son-in-law Dan began to take her on frequent walks and she loved it, she could walk 2 miles without a sweat. On her many walks she would pick up “collectables” and display them later in her apartment. When Covid 19 hit and no one could go anywhere, the walks became daily, and the family started week-end Bocce games and walks at the park. She enjoyed her coffee, donuts, and bocce time, winning often!
In recent years she lived in assisted living near her daughter. She participated in the many activities there and often even played weekend Bocce with family.
She celebrated her 99th birthday August 21, 2024 having a grand time surrounded by her family. She always was striving to get to 100. She was a great joy to us all and she will be missed for all our lives.
She is survived by twin sisters Flora Boren and Cora Freeman.
