
Dorothy Jean "Jeanne" Neale, of Austin, Tex., departed this life on December 26, 2004. Jeanne was born on February 18, 1928, in Luling, Tex., the younger of two daughters of George and Bertha Mehner. Her sister Maureen "Mimi" Wootters preceded her in death. Jeanne was a 1944, graduate of Luling High School and a 1948 graduate of University of Texas with a B.S. in Zoology (pre-med). Jeanne was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority and remained active with her alumnae chapter in recent years. She was a member of UT's synchronized swimming team. On June 25, 1948, Jeanne married Jack Clifford Neale of San Diego, Calif., and they were married for 50 years until Jack's death in July, 1998. Jack and Jeanne are survived by their three children and their spouses, Margaret Ann Neale and Alfred Carl Lindahl, of Palo Alto, Calif., George Clifford and Elizabeth Ann Neale, of Austin, Tex., and Mary Jane Neale and Keith Miller Etzel, of Houston, Tex., and four grandchildren; Caroline Marie Neale and Hunter Jackson Neale, of Austin, Tex., and Elizabeth Elise Etzel and Kristin Margaret Etzel of Houston, Tex. During her married life Jeanne lived in many places including Morgan City, La., Brownfield, Tex., Singapore and Oklahoma City, Okla., before retiring in Austin, Tex. She taught high school sciences in Morgan City and worked as a real estate broker in Oklahoma City. Jeanne was an avid duplicate bridge player since college. She enjoyed gardening and travel, taking extensive trips in recent years. She was a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Austin, active there with the Altar Guild and various fellowship groups. Further, with Jack's service as an officer in the Navy, Jeanne was active with the Retired Military Officer's Association. She enthusiastically participated in the UT LAMP program, Learning Activities for Mature People. Jeanne is loved and will be truly missed by all her family and many friends. A memorial service celebrating Jeanne's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on December 30, 2004, at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 8134 Mesa Drive, Austin, TX 78759 with the church open at 10:00 a.m. for visitation with her family. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made in her name to St. Matthew's Episcopal Church.
