

Earline Grasshoff Mitchon, 88, passed away on October 31, 2012 at her home in Austin. Throughout her life, Earline was a friend to all, never hesitating to support and help family members and others when and where she could. She held numerous volunteer positions over the years in her children’s schools and was an active member and volunteer at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and later at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, both in Austin.
Born April 1, 1924 in Schulenburg to Herman Gustav and Ida Oeding Grasshoff, she worked as a teen and young adult at the Grasshoff Meat Market, owned by her father there. On October 26, 1942, she married August J. Mitchon Jr. in Schulenburg. The couple then moved to Austin and lived there except for two years in the 1940s, when August served in the U.S. Army and Earline lived with her parents in Schulenburg. The couple recently celebrated 70 years of marriage.
Earline is survived by her husband August; her daughter Carol Crooks and husband Roger of Gurley, Alabama; her son Jim Mitchon and wife Vanessa of Austin; four grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Virginia Byles and Vernell Bonner; and one brother, her twin, Earl Grasshoff.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills, located at 9700 Anderson Mill Road, Austin, TX. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 5, 2012 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, located at 10205 N. FM 620, Austin, TX.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Thomas More’s New Adventures Respite Care program.
