

Eberhard Proske was born in Lee County, Texas on June 15, 1918. He passed away June 18, 2007, in Austin, Texas at the age of 89. He was the second eldest son born to Emma (Patschke) Proske and Rudolph Proske. He spent his youth working on the family farm in Lexington, Texas. He was drafted into the military service of World War II on March 20, 1942 and was honorably discharged November 19, 1945. He was a Staff Sergeant operating heavy mortar. He served in Normandy, Northern France, and Ardennes Rhineland. Eberhard was a Master Cabinet Maker in Construction and Maintenance at the University of Texas and retired as Supervisor in 1983. He enjoyed Genealogy and worked on his family history for 35 years. He is the author of 6 books on various family histories. His search took him to Germany in 1990 where he interviewed many pastors of the Lutheran church and visited in the churches where his ancestors were baptized and married. Eberhard was a member of the Assemblies of God church for 60 years and taught Sunday School for 24 years. He also served in various capacities of the Official Board of the church. He was an avid student of the Bible, having read it in its entirety from Genesis through Revelation in a number of versions a total of 23 times. He enjoyed meeting and talking with people and served for many years as a Greeter at the church door. He also volunteered at the Hospitality Desk of the Old Bakery and Emporium in downtown Austin for several years. Eberhard is survived by his wife, Myrtle (Kipp) Foraker Proske; his daughter, Sarah and her husband, Gene Glass, and their three children: Matthew, Rachel and Laura of Austin and his step-daughter Charlene and her husband, Ronald Basham and their three children: Nicholas, Christopher, and Alexander of Evansville, Indiana. He is also survived by two sisters: Glorine Eiland and Geneva Proske of Austin, and two brothers: Aaron Proske of Lexington, Texas and Eldor Proske of Houston, Texas. He was pre-deceased by his parents and older brother, Richard; a sister, Helen Hess; and his first wife, Margie (Boatright) Proske. A special thanks to the caring doctors and staff of Texas Oncology and St. Davids Hospital. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20th at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2007 in the Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel. Burial will follow at Memorial Hill Park in Pflugerville.
