Edward Bernard Bertelson, 71, of Burnet and Austin Texas, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on August 6th, 2018 in Austin, Texas. Edward was a beloved brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend to many people.
A native of Austin, Edward was born at his grandmother’s home on East 6th Street on February 18th, 1947 to Vernal Dee Nicholson Smith and Bernard Bertel Bertelson. For the first 30 years of his life Edward lived in and around Austin. In 1976, Edward joined his mother and adopted father Marion Eldridge Smith and moved to Burnet, Texas. Living in the small community of South Silver Creek, Edward spent time with the local volunteer fire department and doing odd jobs around the community. During his time in Burnet one his favorite things was meeting with the locals for coffee in the morning at the Silver Creek store. Edward was a dedicated member of the Eastlake Fellowship Church. After the passing of his parents, Edward decided to return to Austin to be closer to his brother David.
Edward loved spending time with family and friends, especially the family trips to the coast with David and Margaret and their large caravan of kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. Edward also loved visiting his sisters Cathy and Betsy in Oklahoma, where they would often sit on the back porch enjoying the view as it reminded him of the lake.
An avid sports fan, Edward never had a team he wouldn’t cheer for. He loved his sports, especially the Longhorn Football team and the Dallas Cowboys! And although he loved football, his Monday nights were dedicated to watching WWE wrestling! Edward also loved social media and talking to all of his many friends on Facebook.
Edward is survived by his brother’s, David Bertelson and wife Margaret, Mike Smith and wife Kim, and sister, Cathy Greb. He is also survived by his Aunt Elenora Swearingen, and many cousins, nephews and nieces who loved him dearly. He is preceded in death by his parents, Eldridge and Vernal Smith and his sister, Betsy Littleton.
