Edward Buchanan Blackwell, Sr., a man of steadfast strength, unwavering loyalty, quiet intellect, and generous spirit, passed away on June 24, 2025, after a courageous battle with prostate cancer. He was 92 years old.
Born in Durham, North Carolina, on September 15, 1932, Edward was the youngest born to James and Nancy Blackwell. From humble beginnings, he carved out a life rooted in discipline, honor, and love—values that would shape the man he became.
In 1956, Edward joined the United States Air Force, serving honorably as a Staff Sergeant with duty in Germany until 1961. After his discharge, he moved to New York City, where fate introduced him to the love of his life, Angela Lucia Goodridge. They married on August 30, 1969, beginning a remarkable partnership that spanned more than five decades.
Edward and Angela traveled the world, embraced life as socialites, and were no strangers to joy, music, and celebration; but, it was their quiet commitment to each other—through life’s highs and lows—that defined their marriage. Edward stood by Angela’s side through sickness and health, offering a steadfast devotion that endured until his final breath.
In 1974, they welcomed their only son, Edward Buchanan Blackwell, Jr. The bond between father and son ran deep—more than fatherhood, theirs was a lifelong friendship built on mutual respect, shared values, and unconditional love. Edward, Sr. was a source of guidance, strength, and pride to his son, who carries forward his name and legacy with honor.
The family lived in Queens, New York, and later Cherry Hill, New Jersey, before relocating to Houston, Texas in the early 1980s when Edward accepted a leadership role at Texaco. He built a successful 33-year career there before transitioning to a second chapter in real estate, where he earned multiple awards as a residential agent with Keller Williams and Gary Greene.
In 2023, Edward and Angela moved to Austin, Texas to be closer to their son, daughter-in-law, and beloved grandchildren—Angelina Maya Blackwell and Edward Buchanan Blackwell, III (“Tre”). A devoted grandfather, he poured himself into their lives, spending time with them weekly, engaging in their activities, and imparting the same values of dignity, curiosity, and quiet strength that shaped his own journey.
Edward Blackwell lived with purpose and humility. He believed in honoring commitments, speaking with intention, and living each day with grace. He was a man of principle who never wavered in his love for his family or his belief in showing up for the people who mattered most.
He is survived by his loving wife, Angela Blackwell; his son and best friend, Edward Buchanan Blackwell, Jr.; his daughter-in-law, Esther Blackwell, and his treasured grandchildren, Angelina and Tre. His wisdom, love, and example will live on in all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A life well lived. A man well loved. Rest in power, Edward.
