
Edward Allen Burns was born on January 12, 1916 in Dimmit County, Texas to the late Edward Jackson and Margaret Vandervoort Burns and passed away on May 28, 2010. He married Margaret Elizabeth Moses on February 5, 1938 at the University Baptist Church in Austin. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of nearly sixty years, one sister Helen Tabor and one son Robert A. Burns of Seguin. He is survived by three sons; Morris Burns and his wife Connie of Midland, Frederick Burns of Calgary, Alberta, Canada and Ross Burns and his wife Betty of Alpine, one sister Lillian Wilfong of San Antonio, along with six grandchildren. Ed attended Tarleton Junior College (now Tarleton State University) before transferring to the University of Texas where he earned both a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Public Administration in 1942. He earned his Certified Public Accountant accreditation after college graduation and continued to practice until the mid 1980's. He was an active member of the Texas chapter of American Institute of C.P.A.s. He was a fifty year plus member of the Austin Founder Lions Club, an honor of which he was very proud. He worked with the Austin United Fund for many years. He was the Treasurer of the Friends of the Austin Public Library for over ten years. Following Margaret's death he moved to Westminster Manor where he resided until his death. The family wishes to thank the staff of Westminster Manor and Hospice Austin for their loving care during his stay there. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 1st at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at the University Baptist Church, where he had a 70 plus year affiliation, on Tuesday, June 1 at 1:00 pm conducted by Dr. Larry Bethune. Memorials may be made to: University Baptist Church, Friends of the Austin Public Library or the Austin Founder Lions Club.
