Edward "Eddie" Mendoza

February 21, 1968June 23, 2020

Edward "Eddie" Mendoza graced the world on February 21, 1968 as the first child of Belinda Garza Mendoza. Eddie's servant heart was evident early in how he cared for his mother and siblings. This carried over into every aspect of his life. Eddie's heart and charisma endeared him to everyone he met. If somehow that didn't win a person over, his cooking did! His love for God and others shone in all he did.

Eddie found his soulmate in Cynthia Gonzales. They had a relationship few are privileged to witness, no less experience - one of honor, respect, and pure, unfaltering love. Their joy expanded with the addition of their sons - Alec Edward X. and Blake Rafael. With boys came soccer. Every child he coached became his as he lovingly mentored them. Eddie was the epitome of the ideal husband and father. Cynthia, Alec, and Blake were his purpose. Eddie understood the importance of being the head of his family. He led by example demonstrating how to be a godly husband, father, son, and friend. Eddie poured his life into his family. His boys were second only to their mother. He always had the perfect word of encouragement and guidance for his boys. His love and influence will forever be their guide.

On June 23, 2020, Eddie entered into eternal rest to join his grandparents and other loved ones. Those remaining to celebrate his life and carry on his legacy include his wife and sons - Cynthia, Alec, and Blake Mendoza, parents - Belinda and Ralph Torres, siblings - Theresa Alba (Roy), Ann Marie Sepeda, and David Mendoza (Vivian), numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.

The Mendoza family would like to extend a special thanks to the STICU staff at St. David's South Austin Hospital who took amazingly compassionate care of Eddie.

So sad to hear this☹️. LOVED Eddie. So many good times and fond memories from the 80s. We played soccer together at LTHS and he always left it ALL on the field — he was a warrior, a great teammate and a great leader. We were friends socially as well, and Eddie was always the life of the party. He had a huge heart and such a positive energy — my mother absolutely loved him (and so did the other parents). It’s been years since we spoke, but I’ll never forget that big smile and laugh. My deepest condolences to the Mendoza family. RIP Eddie.

Coach Eddie was a huge part of my soccer experience and I'll never forget how much passion he poured into the team. He was the best coach I had ever had the pleasure to play for. More importantly, he was well-respected and liked by everyone who had the chance to meet him. I know how much he cared about me and wanted me to succeed and I'll forever be grateful for that. Although I quit playing soccer competitively a few years ago, the advice Coach Eddie gave me in the past has helped me grow into the young man I am today. Rest in peace Coach.

Mrs. Mendoza, Alec, and Blake, you are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Much love,
Zane Halabi

We remember Coach Eddie when he was forming a new team back in 2012 with the ATX Knights and our son Zane was one of the first players to join the club. We just heard the news and are very saddened. Eddie was was a great coach and a wonderful person, and we all miss him dearly. May he rest in peace.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Cynthia, Alec, and Blake; may God give you the strength to cope with this difficult loss.

Our hearts are utterly shattered with the loss of our Coach Eddie, friend Eddie. What an amazing man who loved his family so much - as he loved his soccer teams. He gave so much without asking for anything in return - just asked the boys to do their best - and I truly feel they delivered to their Coach and our friend. Thank you Coach for what you taught our boys. Z man and Family will always love and be grateful for you and what you gave and taught our family. You will be in our hearts forever and we will forever hold your beautiful wife Cynthia and amazing sons Alec and Blake in our hearts as well. We will take care of and be there for them as you would ask us to do. Much love. The Stachura Family

He taught Trey so much about soccer, respect of the game and life skills that have helped him developed into the young man he is today. Thank you for all the laughs and memories. He will be missed dearly.

Our deepest and sincerest condolences to Cynthia, Blake and Alec.
My son George and I had the privilege to meet and get to know Eddie. My son was coached by Eddie and I was his assistant coach for a few seasons. I loved coaching with Eddie. Thanks to Eddie we had some great winning seasons. Eddie was a dedicated and passionate coach. Eddie always displayed care and compassion for all the kids he coached. He was also a loving and devoted father and husband.

We will miss you very much Eddie.
