Edward loved being a father and took great pride in his children. While he was the devoted father of his biological children, Mary and Brandon, he was also a father figure, mentor, and source of guidance to countless others throughout his life. He opened his home to those in need, offering not only shelter but encouragement, wisdom, and unconditional support.
Edward's love, strength, and willingness to serve others stemmed from the One he loved most-God. Through his faith, he ministered to countless people and led many to Christ throughout his lifetime. Whether at The Lord's Vineyard, Agape Christian Ministries, The Lighthouse or Bannockburn Church, Edward worshiped faithfully within the church, but much of his ministry took place beyond its walls.
One of the ways he reached others was through boxing. What began as backyard boxing lessons grew into a lifelong passion that led him to become a USA Boxing Titled Coach. Through Agape Boxing Gym and The Remnant, he served children, youth, and adults, dedicating his life to helping others discover their purpose, transform their lives, and come to know God.
Edward's mission was simple yet powerful: to help people and see lives changed for the better. His motto was, "Change your mind ... Change your life!" One of his favorite scriptures was Romans 12:2:
"Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is-His good, pleasing, and perfect will."
Edward truly found God's will. Together with the beautiful family he built, he became licensed through the State of Texas to provide foster care, continuing his calling to help youth and young adults for many years to come.
While dedicating his life to ministry, mentoring youth, coaching boxing, and caring for foster children, Edward also successfully operated his own business, Capstone Construction. Through his hard work, determination, and entrepreneurial spirit, he was able to build a thriving business that helped support and fund many of the ministries and outreach efforts that were so close to his heart. Edward viewed his business not simply as a profession, but as another avenue through which God provided the resources to serve others, uplift families, and invest in the lives of those in need.
In the later years of his life, Edward battled kidney disease and other health challenges. Yet through every struggle, he never stopped praising the Lord, loving his family wholeheartedly, and reaching out to those around him whenever he had the opportunity. He led by example, finished what he started, and remained steadfast in his love for God and his family.
Edward's race was one of faith, compassion, and perseverance. Though his earthly journey has ended, his marathon continues through his children, grandchildren, family, and the many lives he touched.
His legacy is not over!
Special thanks to Dr. Scott Tolen, Dr. Baru, his nurse Carol and especially to Dr. Kunik and team for allowing Gerri the time needed to care for Edward during his illness.
