He grew up in the Chicago area until he joined the Air Force in 1954. His military career spanned 20 years where he was fortunate enough to live and travel extensively around the world.
On his first assignment after basic training he was stationed in Texas where he met Jo Ann Eads and they had 5 children: Catherine, Karolyn, Edward Jr., Michael, and Brian. After their marriage dissolved, Ed married Jay Ignowski and had two more children: Nida and Douglas.
Ed retired from the military in 1974 and worked in medical electronics as a field service engineer, again traveling and exploring new and exotic places. After retirement, he continued his passion for travel and excitement. He visited every continent except Africa and Antarctica, appeared as an extra in several movies, was a dance instructor for a cruise line, lived in Mexico for several years, and eventually settled in Austin where he danced several nights a week to the delight of all the women around. He met the love of his life, Nancy Hardin, on the dance floor.
Ed had a wonderful sense of adventure. He loved riding his motorcycle, fishing, embarrassing his children with constant picture taking and playing in a band. He proudly rode with the Patriot Guard on several missions. He never met a stranger and had friends everywhere he went.
He is survived by his 7 children, 17 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. His wry humor and friendly nature will be missed by everyone who was fortunate enough to know him.
