Eileen F. McNaughton, beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, died March 30, 2017 in Austin, Texas following a brief illness. She was born on August 14, 1924 in Langham, Saskatchewan to Dr. Henry G. and Katherine Garrioch. In a small school there, she heard a man speak about his travels to Japan, and she told a friend she would give anything to see the world.
Following her marriage to Duncan A. McNaughton, a petroleum geologist, in 1945, she spent a good part of her life travelling the globe, particularly to Australia.
After studying nursing in Vancouver, and her marriage, she resided in Los Angeles, New Orleans, and Houston before settling in Dallas for thirty years, where she raised her daughters. In 1980 she and Duncan built a house in Lakeway, Texas. They enjoyed many years there with friends and family.
Eileen was an artistic person with wonderful taste, who studied painting in Dallas and Austin. She also enjoyed gardening, walking her beautiful dog, Bob, and visiting with her cherished friends. As a widow, she remained independent, and was an excellent role model for her family. She learned Tai Chi, swam, walked, and served as a volunteer for the City of Lakeway. Her friendly, enthusiastic spirit will be missed by her family and friends.
Eileen was predeceased by her parents; her brother Gordon Garrioch; her brother-in-law Harry McClelland and her husband of more than fifty years, Duncan A. McNaughton. She is survived by her daughters, Diane Finstrom (Larry); Sheila Shook (Michael); and Ellen Pena. She is also survived by six grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren; her sister Sheila McClelland; sister-in-law Evelyn Garrioch; and her brother Ian D. Garrioch, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Austin. In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to the Lakeway Friends of the Park; the AAPG Foundation - Duncan A. McNaughton Named Grant; SIPES Foundation; or the charity of your choice.
