Eleanor Rose Jacks
August 22, 1933 – March 30, 2021
Eleanor Rose Jacks, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, died peacefully on March 30th at The Heart Hospital of Austin. She was 87 years young. She was born on August 22, 1933, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Harold and Marie Snyder, both now deceased. She was raised in Kansas City, Missouri, and graduated from The Barstow School for Girls. She attended the University of Kansas where she met and married the love of her life, Hugh H. Jacks. They were two weeks shy of their 68th anniversary, and were together until the end.
She is survived by her husband Hugh H. Jacks of Austin, Texas, and by her two sons Mark Alan Jacks and his wife Jane of Austin, and by Donald Clayton Jacks and his wife Lora of Enid, Oklahoma. Her three grandchildren were lights of her life, Natalie Rose Jacks of Dallas, and by Clayton Lee Jacks and Audry Claire Jacks of Enid. She is also survived by her brother Harold John Snyder Jr, and his wife Adele of San Diego, CA.
She loved watercolor painting, and looked forward to weekly painting sessions with her friends for over twenty years. She was active in First Presbyterian Church of Austin, including leading the Women’s Bible Study group and organizing the Vacation Bible School crafts for children. She was an avid cook, gardener, and flower arranger, and also loved jigsaw puzzles.
Funeral arrangements are pending. Following cremation at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home on North Lamar, a memorial service will be held in the coming weeks at First Presbyterian Church of Austin. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution to your favorite charity in Eleanor’s name.
