Elinor (Elly) Robinson, aged 98, died peacefully of natural causes March 7, 2017 at Westminster in Austin. Born November 27, 1918 in San Antonio, she was daughter to Fred and Belle Mayer. She married high school sweetheart J.C. Robinson in 1939 and moved to Houston, where they raised two sons, John (Jay) and James (Jim).
Elly thoroughly enjoyed hosting parties and loved being with her grandchildren for all sorts of activities. In younger years she and J.C. always had a series of country cabins where family and friends could gather for fishing, exploring, and sampling her great cooking. "Robinwood," their most celebrated place outside Houston, became synonymous with good, healthy family times. After retiring to Austin, they continued to entertain family and grandchildren with boating, camping trips and holiday get-togethers until J.C. passed.
She loved entertaining, reading, and playing bridge or scrabble. But her biggest joy came from hearing about the exploits of her grandchildren, or their young ones. Elly owed her longevity to healthy living habits despite a scare, at age 97, when she cut her head playing volleyball. Really!
Elly is survived by son, John and wife Mickey; grandchildren Ken, Mark, Keith, Kelly, Russell and Carla; great-grandchildren Scott, Jack, Meagan, Cole and Oliver; and a few relatives and close friends.
Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 pm on Sunday, March 12th at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home on Lamar, with a chapel service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Graveside services will follow at Austin Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, Elly would have wanted you to stay close to your family - and tell them that you love them.
