Elizabeth Cessna, 83, of Cedar Park, TX, went home to be with the Lord on July 31, 2024. A memorial service in her honor will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 10, in the Chapel of Bethany United Methodist Church, 10010 Anderson Mill Rd., Austin, Texas.
Elizabeth was born on October 12, 1940, in Waco, Texas, the daughter of Milton and Hattie Cooper. For 61 years, she was married to Gerald Cessna, who went home to be with the Lord in 2021. Gerald and Elizabeth met as students at Baylor University. During their marriage, Gerald and Elizabeth worked together to take very good care of their children. Elizabeth supported Gerald as he worked on his master’s degree, cared for him after a serious car accident, and provided care through many illnesses in the latter part of his life.
Elizabeth’s survivors include her son Jerry Cessna, Jerry’s wife Priscilla, her daughter Julie Quinn, her brother Jim Cooper, and Jim’s wife Norma. She was called “Mimi” by her grandchildren Brenda, Adam, Ian, Caitlin, and Jackson. Great-grandchildren include Theodore, Nathaniel, Henry, Boone, Beau, Gemma, and Judah.
Elizabeth had a very active work life. Early in her career, she worked for Southwestern Bell in Corpus Christi, TX. After the family moved to San Marcos, TX, she worked as a Customer Service Representative for San Marcos Telephone Company and eventually became the Customer Service Supervisor. She later took a position as a manager for Thrifty Call. When Thrifty Call was acquired by Grande Communications, she worked for them. A few years after retiring from that position, she worked as a Patient Advocate for Central Texas Medical Center.
Elizabeth’s Christian walk was central in her life. In her adult life, she was an active member at Parkdale Baptist Church (Corpus Christi), First Baptist Church (San Marcos), First Christian Church (San Marcos), and Bethany United Methodist Church (Austin). She often sang in church choirs where she attended.
Elizabeth played piano growing up and for her family as an adult. She loved playing musical numbers by Rogers and Hammerstein and George Gershwin. She passed down her love for music to her children. She loved movies—especially later in life. Among her favorites were Phantom of the Opera, Sound of Music, and the Greatest Story Ever Told.
