She was born May 26, 1933, in Brooklyn, NY to Anthony and Elizabeth Fennell.
At a young age, Betty was a dedicated caregiver, leaving school early to help support her family. She was an animal lover, having cared for many cats and dogs over the years. She considered her animals akin to children. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking and reading. She also enjoyed striking up conversations with strangers. She was a devoted homemaker.
She was an active supporter of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. She would often pray to Saint Jude, the patron saint of lost causes, to help those in need.
Betty is survived by her husband of 45 years, David; 3 sons, John, Thomas, Robert; 4 daughters, Susan, Elizabeth, MaryEllen, Janet; and 21 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren, with another one on the way.
She was preceded in death by her son, Stephen Paul Nelson.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, May 30th, 2012 at 11:00 am at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 South Congress in Austin. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Betty's name.
