Elizabeth Bettye Mills Russell Bettye was called peacefully to her heavenly home on Tuesday, April 10, 2007, at the age of 89. She was born to her father, George Mills, and mother, Pearle Pierce Mills, in Oklahoma on March 13, 1918. As a young girl the family moved to Houston, Texas. They settled in the Houston Heights area where Bettye grew up. She graduated from Reagan High School where she was an officer in the award-winning Red Jackets drill team. After graduation she went to work for Sears Roebuck and Co. where she was an executive secretary for many years. She met and married Glenn Russell, a pharmacist, and they operated a pharmacy in Richmond, Texas, for several years. They later moved to Houston where Bettye was active in the Greater Houston Area Pharmaceutical Auxillary. In the year 2000 Bettye moved to Austin, Texas, to be near her family. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 15, 2007 at Brookside Memorial Park, 13401 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas. Obituary and guestbook online at wcfish.com
