

Elizabeth Halm Ware (lovingly called Gammaw) died on June 26, 2005 in Albuquerque, NM where she resided for the last 9 months. She was born Elizabeth Carolyn Halm on June 29, 1919, in Seguin, TX, to Emil and Erna Eberhard Halm. The youngest of three sisters, she moved from Seguin to San Antonio in her early years and graduated from Thomas Jefferson HS. Her family later moved to Austin which she called home for most of her life. After graduation from high school, Elizabeth attended Gulf Park College in Gulfport, MS and the University of Texas. She later worked in Mineral Wells, TX. While living there, she became engaged to her future husband, 1Lt. James Nathan Ware, who was serving with the US military in Brownwood, TX. They were married October 19, 1941 at the University Methodist Church in Austin. While her husband was deployed overseas during WW II, she lived with her parents in Austin and worked as a war bride. After the war, Elizabeth made her permanent home in Austin with her husband for almost 59 years. She gave birth to two children, a daughter Elizabeth Carolyn (Betsy) and a son, James (Jim) Halm. She delighted in raising her children and participating in numerous community activities such as PEO. She and her husband especially loved the time they spent at their farm near The Grove, TX where many wonderful memories were made. They also enjoyed traveling and had the opportunity to visit such places as Thailand, Europe, and South America. Known for her creative talents, Elizabeth also enjoyed attending craft fairs all over Texas and creating beautiful mementos for family and friends. Her outgoing personality and generosity made her loved by one and all. In her later years, the delight of her life was time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Ware, and her sister, Margaret Gregory. She is survived by her older sister, Esther Mallory; her daughter, Betsy Webb and husband Gary (of Albuquerque, NM); her son Jim Ware and wife Judy (of Dayton, OH); grandson Lane Webb and wife Katie (of Albuquerque, NM); grandson Kevin Ware and wife Mandie (of Denton, TX); and grandson David Ware (of OKC, OK). She is also survived by 3 great grandchildren, Lauren Elizabeth Webb of NM and Connor and Cian Ware of TX. Visitation will be at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar, 452-8811 on Wednesday, June 29, 2005 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. A private graveside service will be held at Austin Memorial Park on Thursday, June 30, 2005 at 10:00 A.M., followed by a memorial service the same day at 2:00 at the Riverbend Church, 4214 Capital of Texas Highway, for friends and family.
