

Ella B. Pfennig, born April 28, 1901, died June 13, 2004 in New Braunfels, TX at the age of 103. Ella was born in Richland, TX to Albert and Sophie Sakewitz Pfluger. She attended schools in Pflugerville and continued her education at Southwest Texas Normal-College now Texas State University in San Marcos. Ella taught school for several years in Travis County prior to her marriage in 1927 to H.W. Pfennig, Sr. She and her family lived in San Antonio and later in Austin where she was housemother to many young men at the University of Texas and also worked at the office of the Travis County Tax Assessor. Ella was an active member of St. Martins Ev. Lutheran Church for over fifty years. Ella was preceded in death by her husband in 1935, her parents, a son, H.W. Pfennig, Jr., sisters, Nora Pfluger and Pearl Krienke, and a brother, George Pfluger. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Eleanor Ann and Earl Koester of New Braunfels, daughter-in-law, Claudette Pfennig of Pasadena, Texas, sisters, Edith Hodges and husband Earl of Corpus Christi, and Mildred Parker and husband, Ned, of Austin, and a brother, Willard Pfluger and wife, Camille of Pflugerville. She is also survived by grand children: Melinda and John Poss of Dallas, David and Emily Koester of Warwick, MA, Beth and Bill Toland of Camden, ME, Deborah and Guy Burdette of Cyprus, TX, Pamela and Matthew Glazener of Pearland, TX, and Molly and Tom Brown of Portland, OR. Other survivors include twelve great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins, Visitation with family members will be Friday, June 18 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at St. Martins Ev. Lutheran Church on Saturday, June 19 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Pflugerville.
