Elmer Lawrence McLester passed peacefully in his sleep during the early morning hours of December 22, 2019. He was fortunate to pass at home near his loving wife, Daisy Prophet McLester. He leaves behind his wife, daughters Linda Beam and Joanie Miller, their adoring families, including 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and extended family.
Elmer was the son of Lawrence V. and Myrtle Lee McLester. After serving in the U.S.Navy in World War II, he attended Texas College of Arts & Industries and graduated with a degree in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering. After working for several years in the oil industry in Texas, he started a remarkable new chapter of his life when he moved his family to Venezuela and took a position with Creole Petroleum Corporation. After 16+ years in Venezuela, and a year in Rome, Italy, Elmer and Daisy returned to the USA and settled in Austin. He was a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas for almost 60 years.
In Austin, Elmer developed a real estate company with Larry Grisham, which grew to be one of the largest real estate firms in Central Texas, McLester & Grisham. He was a past president of Williamson Co Board of Realtors.
Since his retirement, Elmer has enjoyed hunting and watching golf. He looked forward every year to hunting seasons at the exotic game ranch in Junction, where he would spend weeks with many friends. But his biggest joy in life was spending time with his bride Daisy and his growing family. He loved to involve the grandchildren in planting his garden, reaping its fruits, and feeding the deer.
