March 24, 1921 ~ February 11, 2011
On Friday, February 11th, 2011, we said goodbye to one of the most beloved men in our lives, Elmo McNeill. He was born in Sinton, Texas, March 24th, 1921, the grandson of a real Texas cowboy, Jim “Uncle Jimmy” Rigby. He was known to many by different names. It may have been Elmo, Mac, Uncle Mac or Uncle Monkey but most of all he was known for his zest for life, as he was always the “life of the party”. He served his country as a pilot of a B-17 bomber in WWII where he flew 50 missions in the European Campaign earning him the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with four Oak Leaf clusters. When he returned to the States and ventured on in life he married Evelyn “Susie” Rockett. After working in Corpus Christi for the FAA as the Facility Control Chief, he retired to Lago Vista in 1976 and the real fun began…Over the years, we all enjoyed hearing his stories and spending time with him. He was a good friend and Uncle to many of us. We know that you are in a good place Uncle Mac because like you always said “Don’t go if you can’t have fun”. Thanks for memories.
A Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, February 14, 2011 at Cook-Walden/ Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home on Anderson Mill Rd.
