

Elof "Sonny" Soderberg passed away on August 3, 2008. He was born on October 6, 1926 in Austin, TX. Elof enjoyed working for the Lower Colorado River Authority for over 40 years. Elof began his career at the LCRA in the mail room while he was attending Austin High School. After graduating from high school, he served his country during World War II in the United States Air Force. Elof returned home and attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he played trombone in the Longhorn Band and received a degree in electrical engineering. Following his graduation from UT, he worked for the LCRA as an electrical engineer, then as Chief Engineer, and finally, as General Manager until his retirement in 1986. He worked on numerous projects during his time at the LCRA that greatly benefited the lives of Central Texans. In honor of his years of service, the LCRA dedicated its state-of-the-art Elof Soderberg System Operations Control Center to him in 2001. Elof was a lifetime member of Balcones Country Club. He served on the Board of Austin Jaycees, was a past president of the Austin Kiwanis Club, and served as Chairman of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers. He was a long time member of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers and the National Society of Professional Engineers. He loved to golf, fish, dance, and play cards. He brought laughter into the lives of all who knew him. Elof will be greatly missed by his wife of 57 years, Mary Virginia, his daughter, Kristina Soderberg Browder, his granddaughters Katherine and Mary Browder, and his goddaughter Cammy Ward, all of Austin. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, located at 3125 N. Lamar in Austin. Service will be in the Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel, Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family would like for donation to be made to the charity of your choice.
