Elroy E. Harris

Elroy E. Harris was born to Ellanora and Edward J. Harris, in Austin, Texas on the 27th of September, 1915. He died on the 6th of September, 2011 at his residence. After finishing high school he moved to Washington, D.C. In 1934 he was employed by the Department of the Navy where he served in several activities of that Department, in Personnel Management and Labor Relations until his retirement in 1974 after 40 years of service. He is a graduate of the George Washington University of Washington, D.C. He and his wife, Mary Grier, moved to Texas and eventually settled in Austin. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years in December 2006. He is survived by his son Roy Douglas Harris and his wife Jacquelyn of Golden Colorado, and his daughter, Barbara Ann Heck and her husband, Fred, and four children, Chris, Diane, Brian and Patricia and one Grand-daughter all of California. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family on Thursday, the 8th of September, at 6 o’clock until 8 o’clock in the evening, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas 78752. Services will be held at 10 o’clock in the morning, at the Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, at Cook-Walden Capital Parks, 14501 North IH-35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660. In Lieu of flowers and customary remembrances, the family asks donations be made to Hospice Austin, 4107 Spicewood Springs Road suite #100, Austin, Texas 78759.
