He attended Lanier High School and soon after enlisted into the US Marine Corp. He was medically honorably discharged. He received a medal award for good conduct. Early in life, he attended and professed his faith in Christ at Fontaine Memorial Baptist Church and was baptized under the leadership of the late Rev. Fontaine.
Elroy married Rhonda Washington and under this union was born one son, Wilbert Charles Robert James Turner and one son was adopted, Theodore Roosevelt Washington Taylor Turner.
Elroy is preceded in death by his father, Robert James Turner Sr. and Wilbert Charles Owen, who was the stepfather that raised him.
He leaves to cherish his memory; mother, Ora L. Waters; three brothers, Robert J. Turner Jr, Imtiyaaz Aleem, Kennard E. Turner; three sisters, Shirley Turner, Najla Rashad, and Margaret Ann Owens all of Austin, Texas. He leaves behind two sons, one grandson, a great-grandson, 19 nieces and nephews and 28 great nieces and nephews.
A funeral service for Elroy will be held Monday, July 18, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas 78752.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are Branden Aleem, Antonio Owens, Orlando Turner, Tarrel Turner, Elijah Turner, Hakeem Aleem, Eric Montgomery and Teddy Washington.
