

After blessing us with nearly 92 years, Elsie Estella Bates, Grandma, passed away Monday, May 5th, 2014 in Kyle, Texas surrounded by her loved ones. Grandma was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky, June 8th, 1922, where she lived until the early 1960s when her husband was transferred to Austin, Texas. She was a loving mother and grandmother who was always crafting and creating. Her artistic hand knew no bounds through crochet, ceramics, paint, and soft sculpting dolls. She was always lovely and lively, never looking or loving less than another. Her sweet nature touched all with whom she came in contact and she will be dearly missed and always loved.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard Bates, daughter, Judith Lawrence, parents, Clarence and Daisy Stickler, and sister, Vivian Stickler.
Her loving family, who will miss her dearly, are her brothers, Dan and Gene Stickler, son, Ronald Nissen, grandchildren, David Gandy, Ronnie Nissen, Vicki Dorsett, Cindy Gabbert, Shane and Waco Boyd, and Jeri Glaser; twelve great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren. They are grateful for the wonderful care she was given at Legend Oaks Healthcare and from Heart to Heart Hospice.
The family will receive friends at a Visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 9, 2014 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home, located at 6300 W. William Cannon Drive in Austin. Funeral services will follow at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Interment will be held at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park, located at 4219 Park Road 4 South in Burnet, Texas.
