Elwanda Sharpe

Elwanda "Wanda" Sharpe Wanda died quietly after the strokes she had so victoriously defeated, relentlessly kept coming and finally took their toll. On Nov. 16, 2007 she left her earthly body to join the love of her life, her beloved husband-companion-friend, Lewis C. Sharpe, Jr. who preceded her in death Sept 1998. Born Elwanda Louise Smith December 6, 1925 to Jodie and Minnie Vestie Bryce Smith in Wood County, TX she was the oldest of 4 children. Wanda held several jobs during her life but she found her calling as a telephone operator, she retired from Southwestern Bell in the mid 1980's. She avidly researched genealogy and passed this desire onto her children. Her taste for story telling kept the staff and residents at Gracy Woods I entertained and on their toes during her stay there. Wanda's life was full and more diverse than room to tell. Wanda was also preceded in death by 2 sons: Lacy Wayne (1947) and Lester Lee (1999). Wanda leaves behind: daughters, Lynn Sherrie and husband Arvle Cooper and Landa Cook both of Wilsonville, AL.; son, Lewis Clyde Sharpe III and wife Debbie of Hutto, TX; grandchildren, Michelle Lea and husband Phillip McIntosh, Stacy Cooper and wife Sarah, Tracy Cooper, Shannon and husband Robert Huntley, Kevin Sharpe and wife Jenifer, Lewis Clyde Sharpe IV and wife Jennifer, Lauren and husband Jeremy Krapfl, and Ashley Sharpe; sisters, Eska Fay Porter and Joyce Laverne and husband Pat Busbee; brother, Jodie Darrell Smith and wife Donna of Chino, California; sister-in-laws, Margarette Wagoner of LaGrange, TX and Esther Ruth (Ruthie) Patrick of Austin, TX; brother-in-law, Lee Allen (Sonny) Sharpe and wife Vita of Austin, TX; great-grandchildren, Lex, Ivan, MacKenzie, Braydon, Chaz, Andy, Shane, Christian, Lewis V, Hayley, Quinton and some on the way; many nieces, nephews and other extended family. Wanda's family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Gracy Woods I for the genuine care and attention given to Wanda during her last year of life. They made a very difficult thing easier to handle. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, November 19, 2007 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel. Interment will follow at Austin Memorial Park. Obituary and guestbook online at wcfish.com
