Star, a rare third generation Austinite, was the third daughter born on September 21, 1948 to Bob and Jean Ellis Bright. Her parents and sisters Jean Bright Land and Judith Bright Davidson precede her in death along with her beloved grandmother Grace Modrall Bright and great-aunt Rosamond Emily Modrall, from whom Star received her namesake.
Star’s children and grandchildren filled her life with insurmountable love, joy, and pride. She is the cherished Mom of Bobby and Bryan who survive her along with their father Bill Johnson. She is most affectionately “Mamoo” to Bobby and Carolyn’s daughters, Emily and Lyndsey, and precious “G-Ma” to Spencer and Riley, Bryan’s children with their mother Kim Bullock.
Star shared her love often and easily with her extraordinary generosity and exceptionally kind heart. People were literally drawn to her because she made them feel special…always ending conversations with “I love you.”
Her sense of fun and spontaneity made her the life of any party. She simply commanded an audience with her infectious sense of humor, sharing often outrageous stories leaving everyone laughing in tears. She always gave the blessing at family events…expressing her tremendous love and gratitude for her family and friends, always ending by graciously honoring our country’s troops.
Star’s lifelong and infamously doting love of animals, including three precious puppies - Harley, Muggy and Max - reflects the family’s wishes for donations to be made to Austin Pets Alive in lieu of flowers.
