Emogene Monson Bengston

Our beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, Emogene Monson Bengston passed away at the age of 95 in Houston, Texas on November 13, 2011. Emogene was born a twin (Emory) to Annie and Alex Monson in Georgetown, Texas on August 29, 1916. There were seven children all predeceased. The family moved to Brady, Texas, where Emogene graduated from high school.

Emogene married Arnold Bengston on July 3, 1940 and they resided in Austin, Texas. They had three children Bette, Donald and Dennis (deceased). Emogene was very active in the Order of the Eastern Star serving as Worthy Matron twice. Emogene was a life-long member of Memorial United Methodist Church formerly Central Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School in her early years.

Arnold and her son Dennis predeceased her in 1985. She moved to Houston, Texas in November 2007 and had been residing at Treemont Nursing Care.

She leaves to cherish her memory daughter Bette Austin (Paul) and her son Donald Bengston, grandchildren Stephanie Boozer (David), Brian Austin (Sarah), Candace Byers (MacGregor), Cheri Gifford, Corbin Bengston (Celeste), and Cristin Branham (Grant), great grandchildren Lauren, Harrison and Kathryn Austin, Brooke, Julia and MacGregor Byers, Makenzie and Brie Gifford and Ryder and Logan Bengston. She is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family will be at 1:00 pm on Thursday, the 17th of November at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 North Lamar, Austin, Texas. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. immediately following the visitation with Pastor Cynthia Kepler-Karrer officiating. Interment will follow at Capitol Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to Memorial United Methodist Church, 6100 Berkman Drive, Austin, Texas 78723 in Emogene's name.
