Minnie was born November 30, 1941 in Rowena, Texas, to the late Soila Navarro, was raised in Veribest, and graduated from San Angelo Central High School. She received an ASN from Angelo State University and a BA from St. Edwards University, Austin, Texas. Minnie had a long career as a Registered Nurse. She started at Shannon Hospital in San Angelo, worked in home healthcare and for the San Angelo State School, and was the Administrator at the Marbridge Foundation in Manchaca when she retired.
Minnie was the beloved wife of Samuel R. Salas for 57 years. She is survived by her sons, Samuel J Salas (Norma), Steve Salas (Pam), and Rene Salas (Teresa); brother, Johnny Sandoval (Dora); grandchildren, Jeff Salas (Bonnie), Tiffany McClintock (Ryan), Jennifer Montya (Clint), Haley Losoya (Jose), and Kimrey Ontiveros (Justin); and nine great-grandchildren.
Minnie was a proud resident of Texas who resided primarily in San Angelo and Round Rock. Minnie’s greatest joy in life was her family and she was very involved with her children’s activities including Central High Band Boosters, Pop Warner, and Round Rock High Cheerleading Boosters. She loved to travel and particularly enjoyed Hawaii and Florida. Her favorite holiday was Christmas when the entire family would gather at her home to celebrate.
The family wishes to thank the excellent nursing staff, especially the ICU team, at Seton Medical Center Williamson.
Friends and family members may attend the memorial service on Saturday, June 2 at 1:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills, Austin, TX.
