Beadie Estelle “Joyce” Reed was called by her Lord this past Friday the 17th of April, 2015. She had been a victim of stroke several days before her passing, and was at peace at the time of her death. She was 89 years old.
Estelle was born in Fleming, GA. in June, 1925 to William Raleigh and Beadie Butler Haymans and raised in and around rural Richmond Hill, GA. for most of her life. She was one of nine children, but lost her mother at an early age. Years later, her father remarried and her stepmom Stella, became our Grandmother Haymans.
Joyce enjoyed and was fortunate to have met and worked for Henry Ford (Ford Motor Company) during her teenage years at the Ford School, established in Richmond Hill. Her future brother-in-law Glenn Smith was in the first graduating class (total of 8 Graduates) of the Ford School.
Estelle was preceded in death by her husband, George Arthur Reed, the love of her life, her parents, and her siblings, brothers Noah, Pascal, and Robert and sisters Hazel, Ruth, Ruby, Earlene and Shirley.
The family moved to Texas in 1949 and lived in Houston, Texas for many years before moving to Austin in the early 90’s, due to George’s health. When George passed in 1996, Estelle continued to live in Austin for many years before moving to Cameron, Texas due to her own health issues.
Estelle is survived by her daughter Linda Campbell, sons Steve and wife Sharee Reed, Paul and wife Sicily Reed, Phillip Reed and wife Kelli, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren nieces, nephews, cousins and longtime friends.
Mom beat several illnesses, including a diagnosis for liver cancer several years ago, but she lost this last battle. We were able to celebrate Easter dinner with her earlier this month and we are thankful she was able to enjoy this last family get-together.
The family would like to acknowledge and give special thanks to Gentiva Hospice of Temple, Texas and the Hospice Care Team who cared for her during her illness. Final arrangements are through Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills in Austin, 9700 Anderson Mill Road, in Austin, TX. 78750. Website: www.cookwaldenchapelofthehills.com.
Visitation will be from 6:00 Pm – 8:00 PM on Wednesday, April 22nd and chapel services will be the following day, Thursday, April 23rd. at
10:00 AM, followed by burial in Houston later that afternoon.
We would love for you to share your memories of Mom and invite you to post your thoughts or upload a picture, a memory or funny story that you would like to share on this website.
