Virginia Velez, born on February 22, 1932, in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico, peacefully departed from this world in her home in Austin, Texas, surrounded by her loving family at the age of ninety-two.
Virginia was a proud resident of Alvin, Texas from 1960 - 2004 prior to moving to Austin, Texas. For five years, she dedicated herself to her role at General Electric in Monterrey, and for thirty years, she poured her dedication into her work at NASA, proudly embracing both her Mexican and American heritage.
Virginia was a devoted family woman who adored her loved ones, had an infectious sense of humor, and loved to dance. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cherishing every moment spent with them. Her kitchen was always filled with laughter and food, as she insisted on ensuring everyone was well-fed. Virginia’s sense of humor and witty remarks could turn any situation into laughter. Yet it was on the dance floor where Virginia truly came alive. She would seize any opportunity to dance and encourage others to join the fun.
Virginia Velez is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rodolfo Velez, cherished daughter Alma Gonzales, her parents Primitivo Zambrano and Otilia San Miguel, sisters Manuela, Trinidad, Lucila, and Minerva Rodriguez San Miguel, and brothers Antonio and Romon Zambrano.
Virginia is survived by her daughter Leticia Soliz, son-in-law Juan D. Gonzales, daughter Silia Sanchez and husband Gilbert, daughter Alicia Velez, son Rudolph Velez Jr. and wife Sally.
She is also survived by her grandchildren Chris Gonzales and wife Sol-Ana, Jon Velez, David Velez, Laura De Leon and husband Ben, Adrian De Leon and wife Elizabeth, Vanessa Gonzales, Aaron Soliz, D’Ana Velez, Macey Soliz, and Aliyah Sanchez; great grandchildren Phoenix Velez, Chaysen Velez, Lauren Espino, Isabella Espino, and Máximo Renteria Gonzales.
The family would like to thank the nurses and CNAs of Summit Health & Hospice for their care and compassion they showed for our loved one.
Though she may have danced her way into the heavens, her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know and love her.
A memorial service for Esther will be held Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home, 6300 West William Cannon Drive, Austin, TX 78749, followed by a graveside service at 12:00 PM.
