She was married to Jon M. Maxwell in July, 1941 in Hillside, New Jersey. They had a daughter, Ethel Jeanne Maxwell. In 1957, she moved with her daughter to Mission, Kansas. In 1959 she married Albert N. Evans and became step-mother to Nickie, Thom, and Jean Margaret Evans.
She graduated from Hillside High School as an honor student and had a long and successful career as an Executive Secretary and Administrative Assistant. She retired from her final position in Kansas City as Secretary to the Credit Operations Manager for all JCPenney stores. In 1978, she chaired a conference for the National Secretarial Association.
Her church was always an important part of her life. She sang in church choirs for over 40 years, and met Al Evans singing in the church choir. In Kansas City, at Southminster Presbyterian Church, she served as Elder and Deacon, and in many other leadership rolls, including Treasurer of the Woman’s Society and Chair of the Family Life Committee. In Austin, she was a member of Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church and a member of Chapter BQ PEO.
GIGI, as she was affectionately called by her family, enjoyed playing golf, bowling and dancing. She loved playing Bridge and Mahjong and having dinner with friends at Querencia. She valued her friendships and always had a winning smile for everyone she met.
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, brother Joseph Zatko, sister Mary Malcolm, brother-in-law David Evans, two stepsons and her son-in-law Richard Davis.
She is survived by her daughter Jeanne Hoisington, son-in-law Van R Hoisington, her step-daughter Jean Margaret Davis, her daughter-in-law Helen Evans, and her grandchildren Van Robert Hoisington, Jr. (Kelli), David Maxwell Hoisington (Karen), Heather Evans, Jay Davis (Angie) Jennifer Clark (Michael), 14 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held in Kansas City.
