Eudoris Stelzer Shreve, 100, was born in Thorndale, Texas on September 24, 1925, to Rev. Fred and Sidonie Stelzer. She went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on March 8, 2026, in Austin, Texas. She was baptized on October 4, 1925, and confirmed on April 10, 1938, by her father at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Thorndale, Texas. Her confirmation verse chosen by her father was Psalm 143:10--“Teach me to do Your will for You are my God, may Your good Spirit lead me on level ground”. Eudoris devoted her life to being a supportive and loving wife and mother to her three children, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was a devout Christian and raised her family in a Christian home. She graduated from Thorndale High School, attended Durham School of Business and helped her husband when he served as treasurer of the church and in the family business. In addition to being supportive of all of her children’s and husband’s activities, she had the heart of a servant and was a dedicated church member and volunteer, including teaching nursery Sunday School for over 25 years at Redeemer Lutheran Church, operating the church’s gift shop, compiling Braille Bibles, actively serving as a Lutheran Women in Mission (LWML) member, volunteering at the Thrift Store, making thousands of quilts for Lutheran World Relief, participating in Bible study groups and various other church activities.
Eudoris met her future husband, Durward, on December 5, 1942, while she was volunteering as a hostess at the Lutheran Social Center and he was stationed at Del Valle Army Air Base before he was deployed oversees in WWII on December 10, 1942. They corresponded during the war and reunited when Durward returned from his tour of duty. They married on October 22, 1946. Durward described her as the “perfect wife and companion”. She brought hope, joy and love to all she met with her kind words and a beautiful smile. “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Matthew 25:23.
She was preceded in death by her husband Durward Shreve (12/3/2009), her parents and her seven siblings and their spouses. She is survived by her children Rex (Rena), Leah (Toby) Weatherly and Mark (Barbara); grandchildren Michael (Tiffany), Geoffrey, Spencer and Trevor (Natalie) Shreve; great-grandchildren Ella, Atticus, Jackson and Everett Shreve and many nieces and nephews.
