

Eugene Elmer English, 97, of Huntsville, Texas, died July 26, 2012. He was born December 10, 1914, in San Angelo, Texas, the son of Raymond Davis and Maude Ella Bosworth English. He married Kathryn Leona Messner in 1937 and she predeceased him. He married Cecile Mae Duggan Soffar in 1983. He proudly served in the United States Navy and after Honorable discharge from the military in 1934, he continued public service for over forty years with the United States Postal Service, beginning as a clerk, and retiring after 38 years of service as a postal inspector. Following retirement he was very involved in the Retired Postal Inspectors Association. Eugene developed a great interest in sailboats, and with his wife competed in regattas, and sailed the inland lakes and Gulf Coast. He was a member of the Austin and Houston Yacht Clubs; Rotary International; and Hill City Masonic Lodge # 456.
Survivors include wife Cecile Soffar English; son Kenneth E. English; daughter-in-law Linda L. English; four grandsons; and three great grandsons.
Predeceased by his parents; first wife; daughter Judith Kay Solis; brothers Rayburn Charles English and Winfred Lee English; and sister Kathryn Maudene Foster.
Visitation from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 30th, at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd, Austin, Texas. Graveside service with military and Masonic honors will follow at noon at Austin Memorial Park.
