Eugene Louis Langenfeld died November 3, 2017. Geno, as he was known to friends and family, was born October 1, 1926 in Port Huron, Michigan, to Joseph Langenfeld, a railroad man, and Kathryn Langenfeld, a Saint of a woman. At age 15 he left home with his buddies to travel the country, soon thereafter enlisting in the U.S. Navy and serving as a Gunner’s Mate aboard the LSM 466 in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater during World War II. Within weeks after the bombing of Nagasaki, Geno was among the American Occupational Forces who entered that city and the Country of Japan. After WWII Geno served in the Army and eventually the Air Force, serving tours of duty in both Korea and Vietnam. After 27 years of honorable military service Geno retired at Bergstrom Air Force Base in 1972. He later worked in real estate and was an Appraiser for the Travis County Central Appraisal District, but it was his military career of which he was most proud.
Geno is survived by his former wife Betty Langenfeld and their children Christopher Langenfeld; David Langenfeld, wife Debra Kay Langenfeld, and Grandson Clayton Ross Langenfeld; Rebecca Clevlen and Granddaughter Erin Clevlen; and John Langenfeld.
