Evelyn Elizabeth Wuthrich Forbes (also lovingly known as: Meme, Mission Control, Evie, and Curly) passed away peacefully surrounded by her husband and children on Friday, October 2, 2015. She was born in Austin, Texas on December 28, 1943 to Fred George and Lenora Wuthrich and was raised in Round Rock.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 51 years, Gary Lynn Forbes; her daughter, Amy Forbes Winebright; her son Mark Troy Forbes and daughter-in-law, Cathy Atchley Forbes; and son, Scott David Forbes and daughter-in-law, Karen Clark Forbes. Additionally, she is survived by her sister, Carolyn Becker; brother-in-law, Andy Becker; and brother, Marvin Wuthrich; sister-in-law, June Wuthrich; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Evelyn’s greatest joy and pride came from her six grandchildren, her "MeMe's Angels": Trevin Forbes Winebright, Kirby Elizabeth Forbes, Jade Caitlynn Winebright, Tyler Jackson Forbes, Emerson Elise Forbes, and Samantha Lynn Forbes. During her long, hard fought battle with breast cancer, MeMe’s Angels started a campaign to raise funds for breast cancer research, awareness, and access. Over the years, through grassroots lemonade stands, craft sales, and now a 4th of July parade float in downtown Fredericksburg, TX; they have raised funds for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and the Fredericksburg Hill Country Memorial Hospital. It may be a small contribution towards a cure, but in their Meme's eyes, it was a mountain of love.
Evelyn graduated from Round Rock High School in 1962 and attended Nixon-Clay Commercial College. After working for the Social Security Office and at the old Bergstrom Air Force Base, she became an involved mom raising her children in Houston and enjoying tennis, crafting, volunteering at her children’s schools, and helping her favorite charities like Child Advocates. Most of all, she enjoyed being outdoors and tending to her garden and her beautiful flowers. A former high school basketball star, she celebrated victories by her favorite team the Houston Rockets and she collected elephant and M&M curios by the dozens.
Evelyn’s family would like to express their deep gratitude to Hospice Austin and Visiting Angels. Their help and support during Evelyn’s last days was immeasurable.
A Memorial Service will be at 6:00 P.M., Friday, October 9, 2015 at Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, 4801 La Crosse Avenue.
Although she loved flowers, Evelyn has asked that a donation be made in lieu of flowers to MeMe’s Angels through their web site at the Breast Cancer Research Foundation: http://give.bcrfcure.org/memesangels.
